New York ACEP Scores a Victory on Addressing Hospital Crowding

New York ACEP addressed hospital crowding and ambulance diversion with the Commissioner of Health, Howard A Zucker, MD JD during New York ACEP's 2015 ED Director Forum.

New York ACEP requested that the Department reissue the 2003 Guidance Document for Hospitals, Overcrowding/Emergency Department Preparedness Hospital Obligations & Responsibilities. The Department acknowledged they shared New York ACEP's concerns and requested comments on needed revisions prior to reissuance.

Recommendations were sent to the Department of Health in October, 2015. With New York ACEP follow-up, it is gratifying to learn the Department of Health responded to New York ACEP's request and issued a CEO letter on the topic today.
