Outstanding Researcher Award

Outstanding Researcher Award

Nominations will be accepted from any person, including self-nominations. The following criteria for each candidate will be reviewed by the New York ACEP Research Committee. Finalists from each category (top 2 for Lifetime and Established Researcher, top 4 for Rising Star) will be submitted to the New York ACEP Board of Directors for final selection.

Selection Criteria:

Lifetime Researcher Award (1 award in this category) – the candidate must:

  • Have secured at least one independent federal research grant, as principal investigator
  • Have published at least ten peer-reviewed manuscripts as first or last author within the same area of expertise
  • Have spent the majority of their career in New York State, excluding residency and fellowship training
  • Have more than 20 years of experience in emergency medicine, including residency
  • Have served on the review committee for at least one emergency medicine journal or have significant involvement in at least two national committees

Lifetime Researcher award recipients will be invited to give a 15-minute oral presentation of their past and ongoing research during the New York ACEP Scientific Assembly Research Forum.

Established Researcher Award (1 award in this category) – the candidate must:

  • Have secured at least one mentored grant (e.g. K-grant from AHRQ/NIH) and demonstrate potential  to become an independent investigator
  • Have published at least five peer-reviewed manuscripts as first or last author within the same area of expertise.
  • Have spent the majority of their career in New York State, excluding residency and fellowship training.
  • Have more than 10 years of experience in emergency medicine, including residency
  • Demonstrate involvement in state or national committee(s) 

Rising Star Award (2 awards in this category) – the candidates must:

  • Have published at least four peer-reviewed manuscripts as an author in a focused area of research
  • Demonstrate significant interest in a research career
  • Have spent the majority of their career in New York State, excluding residency and fellowship training
  • Have less than ten years of experience in emergency medicine, including residency
  • Have at least submitted or obtained two grants
