This award recognizes Departments and Residency Programs demonstrating exemplary physician well-being through operations, social functions, diversification, equity, education and/or environment.

Assessed Departmental Categories
  1. 1. Departmental Vision Statement: Share your Department's mission & vision statement as it pertains to physician wellness.
  2. 2. Mental Health & Emotional Well-Being: Share in detail what programs or systems your Department has in place to facilitate mental health and emotional well-being. Examples include: crisis team, peer support groups, pathways that physicians can take to seek confidential care.
  3. 3. Operational Processes: Highlight operational projects in place that help improve the clinical experience of being a physician. Examples include: the elimination of merit badge requirements (ACLS/ATLS), overlapping shifts, sick-call programs and scribes.
  4. 4. Diversity and Gender Equity: Share how the Department ensures equity among employees for opportunities. Examples include: transparent and equitable schedule of wages, new-parent friendly schedules and highlights of efforts to recruit for diverse faculty.
  5. 5. Environmental Provisions: Share how the work environment and protocols are safe and physician-centric. Examples include: how is physical safety a priority, quiet break rooms, easily accessible lactation room and space for uninterrupted work.
  6. 6. Faculty/Resident Community/Social: How does the Department foster a community? Examples include: regularly scheduled social events, group outings for academic development (journal clubs) and whether or not the Department has a wellness champion.
  7. 7. Education: What does the Department offer to support continued educational experiences for faculty? Examples include: faculty development programs, faculty-specific sim programs and annual review with chair.
  8. 8. Other: What other programs or projects are in place at the Department that should be highlighted?
Assessed Residency Categories
  1. 1. Residency Vision Statement: Share the residency mission & vision statement as it pertains to physician wellness.
  2. 2. Mental Health & Emotional Well-Being: Detail programs or systems in place to facilitate mental health and emotional well-being. Examples include: crisis team, peer support groups and pathways that physicians can take to seek confidential care.
  3. 3. Operational Processes: Highlight operational projects that help improve the clinical experience of being a resident physician. Examples include: conscientious scheduling (be precise), formalized breaks, overlapping shifts, sick-call programs, scribes, minimized scut-work, affordable, nearby-housing or parking and regular feedback with leadership/PDs.
  4. 4. Diversity and Gender Equity: Share how residency ensures equity among residents for opportunities. Examples include: transparent and equitable schedule of wages, new-parent friendly schedules and highlights of efforts to recruit for diverse residency.
