Hot Topics In Recent JCAHO Visits
This new column will keep members informed on areas addressed by JCAHO in recent site visits in New York State. This information has been shared by members who have had site visits within the last three months.

Site #1:

  • Tracer methodology
  • Abbreviations
  • Site verification
  • Policy on emergency department boarders

Site #2:

  • Safety goals- site marking, time-outs, use of abbreviations, sound alike/look alike drugs, legibility, etc.
  • Quality program reviewed- especially in cases where multiple individuals were involved in care
  • Control of narcotics and other drugs
  • P.A. supervision
  • Policies regarding patients under arrest
  • Questions about abuse including domestic violence and elder abuse
  • Concerns over emergency department crowding and patient confidentiality
  • Only reviewed 2 charts
